Chet never had a desire to fully retire from his traffic consultant business, but he was looking to cut his work hours in half. When he came across the concept of Half-Retirement, he immediately fell in love with the idea, but soon after, doubts crept in about it working for him since he was a single-person firm.
Despite his hesitancy, he still booked a discovery call to find out more. Although he realized that some of the Half-Retire systems might not be applicable to him, he was very surprised to learn that most of the core elements would work for him, even though he didn’t have a team to delegate to. In fact, the process has five methods to cut workload that don’t require any delegation at all for it to work.
Chet decided to go all in, and transform his business, and he was soon able to cut his workload in half. With his newfound time, he enjoyed a lot of new activities, but he soon started to crave meaningful work again. Since he didn’t want to go back to grinding out engineering plans again instead, he allocated his extra time to strategize so he could grow the firm into new markets. Soon after, with his new drive, Chet identified a new market and partner firm. With this new partnership and contracts, a general manager became available and joined his firm.
Chet’s firm is now twice the size, and he now loves what he does even more and enjoys a great work-life balance. If you’re a one-person firm, listen to what Chet has to say:
“I did not know if Half-Retire would work for a one-person firm, but I wanted to cut back my workload and did not know where to start. I’m working less than 25 hours a week vs 50+.”
