Rex owns a software company that has been both highly profitable and stable, but he felt chained to it and that it depended on him to be present for it to be a success as it was. In his mind, traveling for extended periods was out of the question.
Even though his team was highly effective at what they did, they lacked the strategic experience to steer the company in the right direction according to his vision. When away they could fail to act on tasks which were important to keep the company running smoothly & successfully.
Rex couldn’t entrust these high-level functions to anyone on the team, and so he felt helplessly stuck in his role, unable to travel or spend much time with friends and family in other parts of the world. The constant anxiety and stress of worrying if the company was going to crumble without him kept him stuck.
This was the case until he discovered the Half-Retire system. Rex was quickly able to analyze how he was spending his time in the company, and he began feeling hope for creating a new reality where he could have more freedom and peace of mind.
After learning the core elements of Fractional Delegation, Rex began to see that although some parts of his work still weren’t delegable, a large number of tasks and sub-tasks could be separated and delegated to his talented team members.
During this process, he identified two key staff members who showed initiative and talent to develop as leaders. Rex invested in coaching & mentoring for them to sharpen their skills to take on these extra tasks so he could free up his time.
Finally, as his workload started to boil down to the absolute necessities, he gained clarity and finally understood what his true Picasso Work© was. The realization that only 5-10% of his time used to be spent on doing Picasso Work© motivated him to continue to delegate the other work until there was nothing left for him to delegate.
As a result of untangling himself from the business, Rex now spends half of his hear half-working from his Florida “office” and the other half in the Midwest at his company headquarters. The best part was he was finally able to fulfill his promise to take his wife on her two-week dream vacation at Italy’s Lake Como.
Contrary to his fears before, by working less, his company not only continued to be successful but actually started to attract more success with unsolicited offers to buy his company pouring in. At this point, his company is running so well, and he enjoys his Half-Retired lifestyle so much that he has zero desire to sell his money-making machine.
By putting in the work to secure his Half-Retirement indefinitely, Rex raised the value of the company and made it more attractive to potential buyers or investors. In his words, he says:
“Now that I’m Half-Retired, I spend half the year in Florida and half in the midwest. I’m loving the work I still do, and my firm is still growing. Even at 71, I wake up excited to go to work now that I’m off the grind.”
